WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
Be careful with removalists offering things like no damage guarantees there is usually a reason why they don’t have or can’t get insurance cover, consider if you need to make a claim, the process you need to go through. (You will not be claiming against an insurance company you will need to claim from the removalist), If they have to pay out a large claim you may need to argue for a settlement. Above all, read the terms of any offer very carefully.
When considering insurance cover for your removal you need to check with your removalist to make sure you are getting the cover you require, not all removalists have FULL INSURANCE and some won’t disclose this voluntarily or may consider TRANSIT cover adequate (this will generally only cover your goods if the vehicle is involved in an accident).
Check to see you are getting insurance and not just a damage cover, it is possible for companies to offer to sell a cover and take the risk themselves.
Consider the risk if you move without insurance, a small accident can cost many times the cost of your move.
Most importantly ask questions about your insurance cover until you feel comfortable you are getting the cover you require.
Unless you are prepared to take the risk don’t accept explanations of insurance not being available or necessary, although they may be rare nobody can guarantee against unforeseen accidents. After all, you have enough to do on removal day you don’t need to worry as well.
